And We Call Ourselves A Christian Nation?

Driving home on Highway 80 yesterday, I observed a large, white road sign that warned passersby that the penalty for throwing trash on the highway  was $1,000.  I agree there should be some type of punitive consequence for littering but $1,000 seems a little steep to me.

Then I wondered what the penalty is for killing an unborn life in our country?  Any guesses?  The answer is obvious isn’t it…..NOTHING.  No penalty, no consequences, no legal action whatsoever!!!

Do you still think we are a Christian nation???

To answer your question: I know we started out as a Christian nation, but as time has gone on the rule of interpreted law has taken us farther and farther away from our christian values.
Our nation was founded on christian principles. Everyone says Thomas Jefferson and a few of the signers of the declaration of Independence were diests, but what people fail to recognize is that of the 54 signers of the Declaration of Independence over half of them were christian Ministers.
All through our history our bible was a foundation, and read in our public schools, until 1963 and a lady/ athiest named Madelene Murry Ohare, challenged a Baltimore statute that provided for the “reading, without comment, of a chapter of the Holy Bible and/or of the Lord’s Prayer” before the start of classes. This statute was upheld by both a state court and the Maryland Court of Appeals.
It was challenged in the Supreme court and the ruling forever changed our History (Justice Clark wrote at length in his majority opinion about the history and importance of religion in America, but his conclusion was that the Constitution forbids any establishment of religion, that prayer is a form of religion, and that hence state-sponsored or mandated prayer in public schools cannot be allowed. )
From that point forward we then started the feminist movement (dont get me wrong I beleive women have rights) and without orating for another 3-4 pages on that, we got planned parenthood, abortion, womens right to choose life and death of the unborn and on and on. I am always amazed that the question is “dont I have the right to choose what I do with my body?, when the question should be when does the baby that is growing in your womb begin to exist as a child/creation of God.? I lead them to the word of God. Luke 1:41-44 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in the womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear. But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
This baby was John the Baptist and even in the womb God had already chosen that child to preach the coming of the Messiah.
Our nation is sliding further and further from God. We are walking a slippery slope with many christians living here but with less and less of a voice in our courts and public forums.
I say to you to keep your eyes focused on the word of the Lord for the Rapture could be very close at hand.
I hope I did not ramble and put you to sleep.

    • Thank you Ken for your input. You made perfect sense and expressed yourself clearly. I appreciate the historical insight and I agree with you that we are no longer a christian nation in how we vote, in how we view life, how we govern, etc. But I believe as true disciples of Christ we have the power and authority that Christ has given us to make a difference and turn this country back to the ways of God. We just have to set aside our worldly desires and selfish agendas.

Take care Ken and I welcome your comments anytime. Patrick
